On Wednesday, May 4th, our lower and middle schools celebr8ed science together! At MS8, students from grades K through 8 presented their fantastic science experiments to parents, peers and real scientists! Additionally, we had some amazing exploratory hands on activities set up for kids of all ages to try out — it was a real blast (and a mess!). From making slime to creating edible DNA models, there were fun learning opportunities for everybody.
Celebr8 Science is a gr8 way for all students in our community to get together and share their discoveries. With lower and middle schoolers collaborating to cre8 a fascinating and fun event, Celebr8 Science is the perfect showcase for PS8 (K-8) and our awesome learning environment.
A huge thanks to Nicole Marcellin, the 8th grade science teacher and head coordinator of Celebr8 Science, and our other science teachers Madelyn Moyer (7th Grade) and Leigh Stumme (6th Grade) for all of their help. We appreci8 all of our parent and teacher volunteers who helped set up, register students and clean up. Events like these would be impossible without your help! A special thank you goes to the visiting scientists who evaluated our students’ projects.
Below are messages from our awesome science teachers:
There are two parts that are important to me. I enjoy seeing families — moms, dads, and their kids — doing science together, hands in the slime, and excited expressions on their faces. The second part is seeing my kids. They’ve worked hard all year and seeing how proud they are to present to scientists and to share their work with the community. It’s a proud moment as a teacher.

It’s a great way for different groups to come together and share what they are doing, to practice talking to people about what we’ve been doing. Some of my students really stepped up; I was impressed. I saw them lift up into their most professional selves and present their work.
Madelyn Moyer, 7th grade science
It’s my first year at MS8. When I was interviewed, Celebr8 Science was brought up, and to see it bloom over the past few months has been amazing.
