Music was a very worthwhile experience in 2018-19, and if the school offered it next year, I would certainly recommend it. First of all, I learned how to play and perfect the instrument I was assigned to, the flute, and it really wasn’t that difficult. You just have to play along with the class and practice only ten to fifteen minutes every week. I was able to start playing songs on the flute after just one week and so were the other kids. In 2018-19, music was only being offered to grade six, and I think the class could help us improve even more, and there should be classes for grades seven and eight.
Second, the system is good. We did exercises to start on our instruments then we played some songs to improve our learning. You get used to your instrument quickly. Mr. Newell, the teacher, always helped the children having trouble with their instruments and we learned almost all of the aspects of the notes, too. We were even playing in big orchestras with each instrument playing different notes.
As you can see, music is a great experience for tweens since it really helps kickstart their knowledge about music. I hope that one day music will also be offered to the 7th grade.
