An interview with our Summer Book Club’s student leader, rising 8th grader Daniella.
How did you get the idea for the Summer Book Club?
One evening my mom and I sat down talking, and I was reminiscing on how many books I read this year. I thought about how children did not have access to a library. And we decided that a Summer Book Club is the answer.
I wanted to continue the love for reading and to encourage youth and my fellow students.
What was the process for getting the book club started?
Right after I had decided that I was going to do a book club I started planning. The very next day I pitched my idea to the Parents Association President, Ms. Ansley. When she agreed, Ms. Ansley and I got in touch with our school librarian, Ms. Green. After many e-mails and communication, the book club was finally set.
In your opinion, what was most successful about the book club, and what areas would you want to improve?
Overall, I think that the Book Club was very successful. However something that I would want to improve is the time period.
What advice do you have for MS 915 students who have an activity they would like to start in collaboration with the school?
Secret: Make sure that you have a plan that you are sure about. Make sure you enjoy what you are doing.
If students still want to read the books the club read this summer, can they get them online? If so, how?
Yes, Students can get the books online. You can go into ebooks (ie: Google Books), or look at options from our school library.
Great idea Daniella! Congrats on getting the Summer Book Club started.
