Bridges | MS 915 formed its first running club this academic year, and the students are enjoying exploring the neighborhood together running through Cadman Plaza, over the Manhattan Bridge, and up and down the stairs at Fort Greene Park (to the theme from Rocky, of course).
7th grader, Wren Sundstrom (pictured above while on a club run to the Brooklyn Naval Cemetery Landscape), shares his love for running and some advice for other students who might be interested in joining.
I first started running because I like to play tag and run fast. When I was 10, I became more serious about running when my cousins introduced me to long-distance. This year, as a 7th grader, I joined the MS 915 Running Club—my first experience running with a team. I don’t tend to run with music, but my favorite song to get ready is “Coming Home (Oregon)” by Mat Kearney. This song is special because my grandparents live in Oregon. Plus, my parents grew up in Eugene, which is called “Tracktown USA” and the “Running Capital of the World”. My running goals this year are to have fun, better myself as a runner, and try competing. Steve Prefontaine is my running hero. He has inspired me to try my best and never give up. According to Pre, “To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.” My advice to other MS 915 students is to join our Track Club. Bring your sneakers and run with other students and friends, while enjoying the outdoors.
