Middle School Exploration Expo: Spring 2014

Our second year at PS 8’s middle school ended not with a whimper but a bang, to paraphrase T.S. Eliot’s final stanza of “The Hollow Men.” We had our final Exploration celebration and it was quite a memorable finish. With individual presentations from middle school students, performances from Brooklyn Ballet professionals and after-school dance club attendees and the middle school rock band, the night was filled with fun and was an amazing closing to our school year.

6th Grade: “What is Courage?

The exploration had many guest speakers. We had lessons from a civil rights activist, a Holocaust survivor, a nurse who works with Doctors Without Borders and a dancer who lost the use of both of his legs to polio. Needless to say, it gave us a deep insight into our question and helped us to define what courage really is.

7th grade: “Is Change Good for Downtown Brooklyn?”

Because Downtown Brooklyn has gone through so many transformations throughout the past and it is going through so many right now, it’s extremely important for us to contemplate the positive and negative aspects and effects of the changes. And that’s exactly what our 7th graders did. Our exposition showcased it really well with opinions on both sides of the question being shared.

It was an amazing night and I can’t wait for Exploration Exposition 2015!
