Hola! Last Tuesday, the eighth graders of MS8 took the A and G trains to the Arbor School, a dual-language elementary school in Williamsburg. They were accompanied by Ms. Barth-Werb the eighth grade math teacher, Ms. Crowley the eighth grade social studies teacher, Mrs. Bromberg and Mr. Balaban, the two parent chaperones, and of course, the middle school Spanish teacher and the person who organized the entire trip.
For over a month, the eighth grade students have been working very hard to write and illustrate cuentos de hadas — fairy tales. Additionally, the eighth graders practiced reading children’s books in Spanish to read to the first and second graders of the Arbor School. Every student received multiple different picture books to read to and with the students. It was a lot of fun to see some old favorite books in Spanish. For example, some eighth graders read Donde Viven Los Monstruos, which is Spanish for Where the Wild Things Are!
It’s important for students to have the opportunity to put what they learn in Spanish class to use outside of our classroom.

When the eighth graders arrived at the Arbor School, they were all very enthusiastic to read and after the hour of reading was over, everyone talked about how much they enjoyed the experience.
Afterwards, as a treat for all of the hard work everyone put into it, the eighth grade visited the local playground, hung out, and went to a small restaurant and ate pupusas, a common dish from El Salvador. They arrived back at the school in time for lunch. The trip was a success!
