Last weekend, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from MS8 participated in the All County Music Festival run by the Music Educators of New York City organization. The All County Music Festival is when kids from different middle schools across all five boroughs come together to perform as one entire chorus, orchestra, concert band, and jazz ensemble.
We had two group rehearsals with all of the schools, on Friday before the festival for three hours and another on the day of the festival for six hours. I know, it sounds crazy that we could all come together, hundreds of voices, and still sound good but we did! We worked really hard and our conductor helped us a lot by pushing us as far as we could go. I took a lot from this experience, I not only had an amazing time working with my friends on the challenging music but it was fun meeting a lot of new people also. In the end, it felt great that all the hard work we had been putting in for the past few weeks had paid off.
I hope that in the future, knowing that the 8th graders will not be at MS8, the new 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will take over and work just as hard and sound just as amazing.
