Throughout the course of the year, every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday middle schoolers of all ages have met in Mr. Klingensmith’s math classroom for peer tutoring. During lunch, students can go there to get help with homework, answer each others’ questions, or get some work done for the next day.
As a peer tutor myself, I look forward to heading to Mr. K’s room every week. Being able to work with younger students, and getting my own challenge problems from the math teachers has been an extremely rewarding experience. Additionally, I’ve gotten to meet many peers in different grades, and become really great friends with them! Peer tutoring is a great program because it allows students to work through problems together on their own time, in a helpful environment.
For example, just last week I had received an algebraic system of equations problem from my teacher Ms. Barth-Werb, which was an eighth grade level challenge. It took me a long time to comprehend it, and talking through the problem with some of the sixth graders at peer tutoring was actually quite beneficial!
Being a tutor is also very gratifying. Working through problems with peers has been a fantastic experience. I love to be able to answer their questions! Anyone can find help at peer tutoring, and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who has a question to ask, or wants to answer someone else’s questions or is just looking for a collaborative place to work.
