8th grade ELA
Jessica Landy’s most beloved aspect of teaching is helping children to feel empowered enough to take intellectual risks. She believes that teaching kids to understand the value of perseverance, even if the outcome is uncertain, is crucial to preparing them for life’s challenges. Ms. Landy gets to witness their struggles on a daily basis and realizes that aside from teaching them the skills needed to overcome, she must help them understand that it’s okay to fail. She also loves teaching kids how words have the power to effect genuine change in our society.
After growing up on the western end of Long Island, she craved a change of environment and obtained her undergraduate degree from SUNY New Paltz. Ms. Landy studied English Literature and Journalism before earning a master’s degree in English Education at New York University. From there, she has been teaching ever since! Ms. Landy loves the energy of middle school students, as they have a pure curiosity for learning.
In her free time, Ms. Landy enjoys hiking, exploring the city, and traveling. She is also an enormous soccer fan and has driven as far as Pittsburgh to see her favorite team play.
