Born and raised in East Harlem and later moving to upper Harlem, I never dreamed of having a career where I could be instrumental in young people becoming productive adults. Twenty-six years later and here I am, teaching and loving what I do. There’s something magical about seeing the moment a child is proud of learning something new. As a mother of two, very successful sons, I always taught them that education was the key to their success.
I attended Virginia state for nursing, NYU for Psychology and Education, and Mercy College for Education for Individuals with Disabilities. In middle school, I attended La Roc Bey school of Dance theater, was part of a pilot program for Alvin Ailey dance company, joined several other dance companies in college and have been pleased to have been a part of the Broadway Jr. theater company for the past 6 years. In addition to having a passion for helping young minds think and self-advocate, I always had a love of music and dance, that I now share with students.
For many people, the life path that we pave in our minds, does not always lead to the path that we travel. Through trial and error, I have learned that when you come to that point where you find that “something”, that you can’t seem to not see yourself doing or having in your life, that’s when you know you have journeyed on the right path. For me, that “something”, is teaching and advocating.
