Born in New York and raised in Queensbridge housing projects, Leilani Mabrey is a mathematics teacher in her 12th year with the NYC Department of Education. She attended New York City’s public schools where she excelled in math, social studies and science. Ms. Mabrey went on to Columbia University where she studied mathematics and history. After working in law and accounting, she joined The NYC Teaching Fellows program at Brooklyn College in 2007, where her love of teaching and learning was cultivated further. The most exciting thing about education for her is developing meaningful learning experiences for students and faculty. She loves seeing her students and colleagues grow and develop academically and social-emotionally through meaningful relationships. She boasts that she has experienced, firsthand, the power of education to transform lives both as a student and as a teacher. On her days off she enjoys reading, dancing, listening to music and kickboxing!
